We know that staying healthy involves more than working out. Our programs and services focus on the entire family’s health, while providing a variety of fitness and wellness programs to serve a person’s unique needs.

At the Y, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions so you can know the best ways to stay fit. We offer the latest fitness classes, personalized training programs, sports leagues for all ages and so much more.

We have a full gym facility for our members with aerobic rooms, a swimming pool, a basketball court, four racquetball courts, two weight room, a cardio room, cycle studio and a child watch rooms.

FREE ORIENTATION

Are you unsure of how to use our brand new cardio equipment, or having questions about our new weight room layout? Contact us to set up an orientation at 361.882.1741. We can set up a one-on-one walk through of our new facility. This orientation will not provide an exercise plan for you, but will familiarize you with our new facility. This free session will last approximately 30-45minutes.

At the YMCA, we know that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to health & wellness. Each one of our members is unique, with individual health concerns and fitness goals. YMCA Personal Training offers training programs for men and women of all fitness levels from novice to athlete. When you sign up for YMCA Personal Training we will work hard to pair you with the perfect trainer and to create a program that meets your unique fitness needs and goals.

Whether you want to lose weight, regain flexibility, develop speed or simply feel good again, personal training is an activity that will continue to reap benefits in years to come. Our personal trainers are certified trainers that are dedicated to empowering you with the motivation and knowledge you need to get and stay fit for life.

Our Classes

GROUP EXERCISE

AQUA ZUMBA – Perfect For those looking to make a splash. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! The benefits are less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.
Water Aerobics -Use the resistance of the water to improve cardiovascular fitness & overall tone without the impact that is associated with land based workouts.  You do not need to swim to participate in our water classes.
Zumba: Ditch the Workout, Join the Party is the battle cry of the Zumba Revolution. What is Zumba? Zumba is the dance/fitness workout that uses African beats and Latin rhythms to help participants get fit in a party like environment. Using an interval format each Zumba class combines dance and fitness moves for cardiovascular health, toning and strength building.
Cycling: Get an aerobic workout that’s easy on your joints with Cycle class. Our indoor cycle classes simulate outdoor riding with sprinting, hill climbing and other techniques. Classes may include core work, too, to strengthen your abdomen and lower back. All levels are welcome, and workouts can be adapted to fit your goals and needs.
Turbo Kick: It is a high intensity cardio kickboxing and body-sculpting strengthening class. You’ll  get lean and toned—and have a blast doing it! It’s high intensity, fast-paced, and totally addicting!
Core/Circuit Class : A quick and effective workout designed to get your core in shape. Selected equipment may be used including stability ball, bands, or weights. Lower back exercises may be implemented. Circuit class follows the core class and is designed to promote skill, body position and deliver a high intensity, multi-style progressive workout. A challenging workout for all abilities.
Silver Sneakers MSROM– Have fun enjoy the music and a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
BODY PUMP: Is a non impact weights-based exercise class that works every major muscle group in the body using weights, a bar and step. It strengthens, conditions and tones muscles, producing amazing results-fast.
Sunrise Yoga & Sunset Yoga: Yoga-Spirit, Mind, and Body all come together in this calm and relaxing class. This can help to start the day off invigorated, or melt away the day’s stresses while helping to improve flexibility at the same time. The flow is slow, focusing on pose techniques, body alignment, and deep breathing. A great class to improve balance & flexibility while relaxing the mind.
PILOXING – The program uniquely blends the power, speed, and agility of boxing with the targeted sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. These techniques are also supplemented by the use of weighted gloves, further toning the arms and maximizing cardiovascular health. Add to that exhilarating dance moves and you have a muscle-toning, fat-burning workout that will make you feel physically and mentally empowered!

JUNIOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

For Ages 9-14, FREE w/Family Membership

The Y offers you and your family a wide variety of fitness equipment in order to cater to your every exercise need. Junior Certification Program is a introductory course that teaches youth and teens (ages 9-14 yrs) how to work out safely and effectively within the wellness center. We will introduces basic muscle anatomy, healthy eating habits, exercise concepts and guidelines, and gym etiquette/safety practices.

Participants take a 30 minute orientation with a wellness staff and when the orientation is complete, they will be able to work out on their own on designated pieces of equipment with an adult present.

YOUTH FITNESS INFORMATION

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 30% of youth ages 8–15 years old misperceive their weight. Approximately 81%  of overweight boys and 71 % of overweight girls believe that they are a healthy weight. Here in Texas 20% of all youth ages 10- 17 years old are considered overweight or obese according to research from the University of Texas School of Public Health. If unchecked, obesity will put our children at risk for many chronic diseases seen in adults such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Let’s combat obesity NOW!

  1. Eat Healthy: Make water the drink of choice for kids.
  2. Play Every Day: Kids should have at least 60 minutes of unstructured play outside (when possible) including 20 minutes or more of vigorous physical activity.
  3. Get Together: Eat as a family as frequently as possible. Kids can be involved in the meal preparation and clean up.
  4. Reduce Screen Time: Time spent in front of a television, computer, tablet, cell phone or playing video games should be limited to two hours per day.
  5. Sleep Well: Kids and adults need to keep a regular sleep schedule—10-12 hours per night for kids and seven to eight hours for adults.

ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

Programs for Active Older Adults

We know that seeking a comfortable place to stay active, find sense of community and strengthening social ties is important. Socializing and volunteering have been shown to have positive effects on the health of older adults, and exercise has proven to promote mental agility, in addition to longevity and good health. 

SilverSneakers®:

SilverSneakers® is a preventative exercise program that enhances the quality of life for mature adults across the country. One of the largest senior-focused exercise programs in the United States, this partnership between HCD and HMOs allows Medicare-eligible members of these health plans to participate in YMCA programs at no additional cost.

Wellness programs:

We offer several fitness programs for older adults. Classes include MS-ROM, Cardio Circuit and water aerobics.

Water exercise:

This class has it all! Motivation, aerobic choreography, muscle conditioning, improved cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water. Great workout with no impact or harmful effects on joints/muscles and stay cool. Ideal for all fitness levels, non-swimmers included.

We need your support annually! The YMCA of the Coastal Bend conducts a Partners with Youth sustaining campaign to raise much-needed funds to support children and families in our community. Help a child swim, or build confidence with team sports.
